Cameron Wire & Cable, a long-time customer, sells commercial and industrial wire, cables and related items to industrial and utility companies. Their decision to use custom branded tape means their product packaging is easily spotted in large commercial warehouses.
Cameron Wire has a well thought-out logo featuring the company name along with contact information. Their color choice highlights the different elements of the design. The Reflex Blue is the company name, while the orange underlines the name along with creating the impression of a cable wire within the letter “O”. It’s a subtle but creative touch. The Red ink draws the eye to the contact information featured at the bottom of the custom printed tape.

The only challenge printing this custom shipping tape is getting the alignment of the 3 inks correct. The logo is sized at its maximum size leaving a ¼” margin at the top and bottom. Each color plate must be situated so they print at the correct distance from each other. For example, the orange dots inside the letter “O” must be centered perfectly within the space. The red lettering at the bottom must line up with the blue lettering at the top and center of the print.
Having the colors spaced and printed correctly all depends on the pressman setting up the individual plates for each ink of the print cylinders. This is where our pressmen with years of experience come in handy. Once the plates are on the press, a good print job is easily achieved.
New Mexico Piñon Coffee is an independent coffee roaster and retailer in Albuquerque, NM. Along with their brick and mortar coffee shops, they also have a brisk online presence and ship their coffee out with a vibrant custom printed tape.
New Mexico Piñon Coffee has an information-packed design. They start with their logo, influenced by Native American iconography, and incorporate their slogan “Great Coffee is a matter of a piñon”. (The Piñon tree is the state tree of New Mexico.) Running the length of the print underneath the main elements is all the contact information and social media information that helps them communicate with their customers.

First and foremost, the color combination is great. Using the yellow tape provides a vibrant eye-catching background for the black and red inks. The logo and lettering are large enough that the custom shipping tape is easily seen and read. The contact information, while smaller in size, is all there, allowing the customer multiple ways to interact with them. And having a sense of humor that lets them put a pun on their tape is a nice touch.
What takes this customer branded tape farther is the commitment New Mexico Piñon Coffee makes towards their marketing and branding efforts. They didn’t just think about the sign over the front door and their product packaging. They made the decision to extend that devotion to detail to everything, including the sealing their shipments with custom branded tape.
7 Bucks a Pop (7BAP) is an online Funko Pop store offering a vast selection of vinyl Pop figures. A leading independent reseller of these wildly popular collectibles, 7BAP tasked us with designing and printing eye-catching custom printed tape to maximize the company’s logo and web address to promote brand recognition.
This vibrant design repeats every 7-3/8.” It features two standard inks: yellow (108) and burgundy (222). We sized the logo as large as possible, leaving the smallest allowable ¼” margins on the top and bottom of the custom printed tape. The web address is centered between the logos in a large, readable font.

The bold two-color logo in this custom printed tape posed a challenge where the burgundy background overlaps the yellow number seven. Because the colors were so close together, there was a risk that the white tape would peek through where the colors meet.
To prevent the white tape from showing between the burgundy background and the yellow seven, we printed the yellow first and the burgundy second. We used separate plates for each color in precise alignment to achieve a perfect print. The slight, infinitesimal overlap of the burgundy over the yellow ink prevented white gaps, creating a beautiful and seamless result.

Mystery Grail is a sister website of 7 Bucks a Pop (7BAP). It provides weekly mystery boxes containing random Funko Pop vinyl collectibles and other fun freebies. Like the custom printed tape for 7BAP, our goal for Mystery Grail was to maximize the company logo and web address for an eye-catching tape designed to boost brand recognition.
Mystery Grail’s colorful logo repeats every 9 7/8.” It incorporates three standard inks: yellow (108), red (199), and Process blue. We sized the logo is as large as possible, leaving only ¼” margins at the top and bottom, the smallest allowable for custom printed tape. Finally, the web address is in a large distinctive font centered between the logos for optimal exposure.

The challenge area for this bold three-color custom printed tape is where the blue edging and red background meet the yellow grail cup. If the blue extends into the yellow, it becomes green, and if the red overlaps the yellow grail cup, it makes orange. Additionally, the alignment of the blue “Mystery” text required precise centering inside the white outline and red background, leaving no margin for error.
Our approach to addressing the ink overlap challenges in Mystery Grail’s custom tape came down to determining the correct printing order for all three inks. We printed the yellow grail cup first, the blue edging second, and the red background last to ensure the colors didn’t bleed into each other. We also used our precision printing equipment and expertise to keep the design centered and aligned.
